JUST IN 🇺🇸: A U.S. senator is calling for President Donald Trump’s removal from office under the 25th Amendment.
Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) has publicly urged invoking the 25th Amendment, arguing that the constitutional provision exists for moments when a president is deemed “unfit to lead.” His remarks come amid renewed criticism over Trump’s recent comments and actions, including those related to Greenland and broader geopolitical tensions.
Several other Democratic lawmakers have echoed similar concerns, calling on the vice president and Cabinet members to consider action under Section 4 of the amendment. That provision allows the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare a president unable to discharge the duties of the office.
However, constitutional experts emphasize that the 25th Amendment has never been used in this manner and faces significant legal and political hurdles. They note that policy disputes or controversial statements alone do not automatically meet the standard, and that impeachment remains the traditional mechanism for addressing presidential misconduct.
No formal proceedings have been initiated. Republican leaders have dismissed the calls, stressing adherence to established political processes and the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.
