BREAKING: Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, widely known as AOC, has officially called for President Donald Trump to be removed from office under the Twenty-Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution,

escalating tensions in Washington and reigniting a national debate over presidential fitness and constitutional accountability.

In a strongly worded public statement, Ocasio-Cortez argued that recent developments surrounding the president’s conduct and decision-making have raised serious concerns about his ability to effectively and responsibly carry out the duties of the office.

She emphasized that the Constitution provides mechanisms for moments of crisis, and that lawmakers have a responsibility to act if they believe the stability of the government is at risk.

The Twenty-Fifth Amendment, ratified in 1967, was designed to clarify presidential succession and establish procedures in cases where a president becomes unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office. Under Section 4 of the amendment,

the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet can declare the president unfit, transferring power to the vice president as acting president. Congress may also play a role if there is disagreement about the president’s condition.

Ocasio-Cortez stated that invoking the amendment is not a political tool but a constitutional safeguard. “This is about protecting our democracy and ensuring stable leadership,”

she reportedly said, framing her call as a matter of national security and institutional integrity rather than partisan conflict.

Supporters of the move argue that extraordinary circumstances require extraordinary measures. They claim that the amendment exists precisely for situations in which a president’s capacity to lead is questioned.

Some legal scholars have noted, however, that Section 4 of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment has never been successfully used to permanently remove a president, making such an effort both historic and politically complex.

Critics, including many members of Trump’s party, have sharply rejected the call. They argue that disagreements over policy or leadership style do not meet the constitutional threshold required for invoking the amendment. Several allies of the president described the proposal as politically motivated and unlikely to gain the necessary support within the Cabinet or Congress.

The White House has not issued a detailed response but has previously dismissed similar efforts as “baseless” and “partisan attacks.” Meanwhile, political analysts say the announcement is likely to deepen divisions on Capitol Hill and energize both supporters and opponents of the administration.

As the situation unfolds, attention will turn to whether any Cabinet members signal openness to the idea and how congressional leadership responds. The constitutional process requires significant political coordination, and without broad bipartisan backing, experts suggest the effort may face steep obstacles.

Regardless of the outcome, AOC’s call marks another dramatic chapter in the ongoing political tensions surrounding the Trump presidency. The coming days could determine whether this remains a symbolic statement or develops into a formal constitutional challenge with far-reaching consequences for the nation.
